The role of the stewardship committee is to help and encourage the members of PCN to engage in prayerful consideration as to the ways in which God is calling us individually and corporately to give of our time, talents and our tithes.
The word steward literally means a person who manages the affairs of a household. In the Christian faith we believe that we are all “stewards” of the gifts given by God to the Church and the gifts given to each of us. We then are called to remember that we are not owners of the things of this world, but rather stewards of God’s creation. We are called to use the gifts that we have been given for God’s glory and purposes in this world. We have been entrusted with gifts and talents to be used for spreading the grace and love of Christ to the world. Giving strengthens our spiritual bond with God; it is an act of faith as well as an act of obedience. What is important is not just the act of giving, but the spiritual decision-making process that leads us to understand God’s will for us. When we act on faith, we reorder our lives and our priorities so that they become more Christ like. When we understand that we are stewards of God’s graces, managers of God’s church and kingdom, we learn to give first instead of giving our leftovers.
Our giving goes to help our church leaders plan for our future ministry, while providing financial support for: our church’s mission, Christian education programs, small groups, fellowship opportunities, youth programs, worship and our mission work throughout the community and the world. We invite all members to prayerfully consider the ways in which God is calling them to give, whether its with their time, talents or resources.
